Jesus is Both the Means and the Why

All Christians believe Jesus is the Son of God, the only means of salvation, eternal life, forgiveness of sins, and reconciliation with God.

To be a Christian means, as the entrance point of eternal life, you believe that.

Even though accomplishing those things is something so big that only God could do it; many don’t realize Jesus is still much bigger than paying the price for the salvation of the billions. He is also the means of creation and the reason for creation.

Here are a several key Scriptures:

Hebrews 1:2 “but in these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed HEIR OF ALL THINGS, THROUGH WHOM ALSO HE CREATED THE WORLD.”

Hebrews 2:10 “For it was fitting that he, FOR WHOM AND BY WHOM ALL THINGS EXIST, should make the founder of their salvation perfect through suffering.”

Colossians 1:15–16 “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. FOR BY HIM ALL THINGS WERE CREATED in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities–ALL THINGS WERE CREATED THROUGH HIM AND FOR HIM.”

John 1:1–3 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. ALL THINGS WERE MADE THROUGH HIM, AND WITHOUT HIM WAS NOT ANYTHING MADE THAT WAS MADE.”

These Scriptures give us important insights given nowhere else but in the Bible.

Jesus existed from the very beginning, before time or the universe existed as “the Word of God”, He was “with God and was God.”

God the Father, through His Word, the Son, created everything in every dimension. The Father, Son, Holy Spirit combo created not only this mind-blowingly large and complex visible universe, as amazing as that is. They also created the entire invisible, spiritual realm that governs much of the visible and will last forever.

The Savior we receive with joy by faith, the One who saves us from our sin, is also the Co-Creator of absolutely everything that is good.

Not only was everything created through Him, it was also created FOR HIM. I certainly don’t understand the depths of how the Trinity works, but one of the reasons the Father wanted to create a physical universe, including us, was to give it to the Son.

3x we read in those passages that the universe was created “for Him”, for Jesus.

Revelation 20–21 tells us that out of all the people who ever lived on planet earth, those who has received Jesus are being groomed to be the bride of the Son and built together as the city of God, the heavenly Jerusalem.

No wonder those who see the Father and the Son most clearly, those around the throne in heaven, cannot stop praising Him and worshiping Him. (Revelation 5:1–13) Jesus did what no one else in the universe could do, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people forGod from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth. (Revelation 5:9b-10)

We are Being Trained to Rule with Jesus

Yes, through His death and resurrection, through His blood, Jesus ransomed us for God. He then made us a kingdom and priests to God, and in time we shall reign on the earth under His kingship. Only Jesus could do that and that sacrifice of love motivates us to worship Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.

Jesus not only paid that horrible price to save us, make us His people, make us new with the assurance of eternal life. But He is also the One who created EVERYTHING, the One who HOLDS IT ALL TOGETHER, and is even the motivation behind the creation itself.

When we realize this and reflect on it, it fills us with awe and leads us to deeper levels of worship, praise, surrender, and faith.

It leads us to love Him even more as we realize a little more how GREAT Jesus really is. Even with these powerful words from Scripture, our human minds still don’t come close to grasping the greatness of Jesus. But even the little we do see, can inspire us to greater depth of worship, trust, and obedience to Him.

Jesus is the Co-Creator of everything. All of it was created for Him. He is our Savior, Lord, and our very life.

“Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might; and honor and glory and blessing.” (Revelation 5:12)
