It’s So Much Better Than You Think

Before I became a believer in Jesus, I was convinced anything associated with God was boring, uncool, irrelevant, or out of touch with real life. There are several practical reasons why I felt this way, but underneath it all was a spiritual deception.

From the very beginning one of the enemy’s most fundamental and on-going tactics to keep us separated from God is the “God knows if you eat of the tree, you will be like Him, knowing good and evil.” ( Genesis 3) deception. Those words spoken to Adam and Eve are continued year after year in our world.

In other words, ”if you do what God says, you’ll be missing out on important aspects of life. God is holding out on you: He doesn’t want you to have the best life possible.”

The majority of spiritual warfare is deception.

The Bible teaches that Satan is a liar, a thief, and a killer, and Jesus is the One who came to give us abundant, overflowing, authentic life. (John 10:10)

Satan has thousands of years of learning what works in deceiving people, so he’s gotten really good at it. Because he is a spiritual being, he cannot be defeated by human, natural strategies or weapons; he can only be defeated with God’s weapons and power.

Thankfully, God has provided all we need to defeat those attacks. The first piece of God’s armor listed in Ephesians 6:10–18 we are told to put on is the belt of truth. When we learn and receive what God says is real and true, we have taken a HUGE step in defeating the enemy.

What Does the Bible Say is True About God’s Plans for Us?

The Bible says quite a bit about God’s current and ultimate plans for our lives, but I’m going to focus on just a couple of them here.

“But speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ.” Ephesians 4:15

“Beloved, now we are children of God, and it has not yet appeared as yet what we will be. We know that when He appears, we will be like Him, because we will see Him just as He is.” 1 John 3:2

Here’s the bottom line on God’s plans for you: God is working to make you like Jesus in character, quality of life, and in your unique calling.

Ephesians 4:15 says that we are growing up in ALL ASPECTS into Jesus.

1 John 3:2 tells us that when we see Jesus WE WILL BE LIKE HIM because we will see Him jas He really is.

The power of Jesus’s presence, fully seen, is enough to transform us into His image.

The point is: God wants you to experience life at the highest possible level. There is no higher quality of life than what Jesus has.

He is the way, He is the truth, and He is THE LIFE. (John 14:6)

The Bible says in the presence of God is the FULLNESS OF JOY. (Psalm 16:11)

Jesus said, “MY PEACE I give to you” John 16:33

He said, “These things I have spoken to you that MY JOY MAY BE IN YOU and that YOURJOY MAY BE FULL..” (John 15:11)

On and on it goes. God wants to grow us up and fill us up with the divine nature. (2 Peter 1:3–4)

The enemy has always tried to convince us that God wants to rip us off, that God is holding back on us. But the exact opposite is true.

Sin, not believing God and therefore disobeying His instructions, results in death, but the free gift of God is eternal life. (Romans 6:23)

The enemy is the one who comes to rip us off, to bind us, to enslave us, manipulate us, and eventually destroy us.

Jesus Came to Demonstrate and Impart THE LIFE

With Satan having control over all who disobey God, which means everyone (Ephesians 2:1–3), blinding people to God’s love and reality, the world was in spiritual darkness.

When Jesus came to earth as a man, He humbled Himself, emptying Himself of His divine authority and power for a time (Philippians 2). He stepped into the limitations of a human body, but was so full of the Holy Spirit that His life shown like a spiritual spotlight in a dark world.

John 1:4 “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.”

The quality of Jesus’ life, His teachings, and His works were a walking demonstration of the life God wants all of us to have. His love, peace, joy, courage, humility, purpose, kindness, goodness, self-control and so much more are called “fruit of the Spirit” in Galatians 5.

Having the fruit of the Spirit grow in us, increase in us, and become dominant in our lives is clearly God’s will for every single one of us. Again, God wants His life, filling us and flowing out of us.

Those are all “aspects” of Jesus’ life, and as we saw Ephesians 4:15 says God’s plan is that ALL of us grow up in ALL aspects in Jesus.

It is a Process

John wrote that right now, this very second we are children of God. When Jesus returns we will be like Him because we will see Him as He really is.

But in the meantime, we can keep growing. We can keep being transformed from one level of God’s glory and life to the next (2 Corinthians 3:18).

When you’re going through those seasons where life is hard or where God seems distant or things are not working out like you hoped. Know this, God is using all things to your good to shape you into the image of His Son. (Romans 8:28–29).

The more you draw close to Him, the more you open your soul to Him and fill it with His word and Spirit, the more powerful the transformation will be in this life.

God’s plans for us are so much better than our wildest dreams. God wants you to be filled with the divine nature and live with a quality of life beyond anything this world could ever offer.
