God’s Grace, Our Actions

In one of Jesus’ most famous parables He talked about an owner who was leaving on a long trip. Before he went he gave three servants resources to work with while he was gone.

Interestingly, this owner didn’t give each servant the same amount of resources. He gave one of them 5 talents, another 2, and finally 1 talent.

When he came back, he met with each servant individually and found out what they had done with the talents He had entrusted to them.

The one with 5 had doubled it to 10. The one with 2 had also doubled it to 4. To each of them, the 5 talents and the 2 talents he said the exact same thing.

‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You were faithful with a few things, I will put you in charge of many things; enter into the joy of your master.” Matthew 25:22–23

In His love and His unmatched wisdom, God gives some of us 5, some 2, and some 1 talents. God gives a measure of His talent to each one of us, but some will have a bigger influence, accomplish more, or be better at some things than others.

But please take this to heart; the amount doesn’t matter when it comes to pleasing God and making the most of what He gives us.

God Doesn’t Reward The Amount of Talent We Have, He Rewards Our Faithfulness in Using It

Please notice God Himself praised the faithful servants individually. How awesome would that be to have our Creator/Savior look us in the eye and tell us we did a great job with what He entrusted to us?

The enemy tries to get us to focus on what we do not have; God wants us to focus on what we do have and use it the best we can.

As a result of their faithfulness to use what He had given them, God then increases both their responsibilities and sense of honor. When we are faithful with what He gives us, then He gives more.

When we are faithful to take action and wisely use what God has given us, He then loves to give us more.

AND they also experienced new levels of enthusiasm and joy. “Enter into the joy of your

master.”

Making the most of what God gives us is a big, big joy of Jesus “increaser”, a joy multiplier.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen, both in my own life, and in the lives of others I’ve worked with, how new levels of enthusiasm and joy have increased when they got clear on what talents God had given them, what He wanted them to do, and then they start actually accomplishing it.

Their smile gets bigger, they walk with more confidence, as they are grateful and humbled that God would allow them to make a real difference in the lives of others.

This is what God wants for ALL of us. He wants us to take what He has given us, use it in His kingdom service faithfully and wisely so He can give us more and we experience the joy and satisfaction God Himself feels in doing meaningful things. That is His plan for you and for me.
