Here are some enormous advantages Christians have in setting and achieving goals.

In a few weeks, we’re heading into a new year. A new year is a chance for us to say “goodbye” to some negatives and chart a fresh course. That is one reason New Year’s Resolutions always get a lot of press.

We want a fresh start. We want to make genuine changes, and this is a great time to set fresh goals.

Failed at goal setting? You’re not alone.

If you’ve ever tried to set goals and then failed, welcome to the club. According to solid research, research, 92% of Americans fail at accomplishing their goals. It makes you wonder why we even try.

Actually, most of the population has stopped trying and instead settled into reactive living rather than intentional growth.

Even in the church, the stats are not much better. After trying to set and achieve goals 5, 10, or 15 times and failing; it’s hard to get back up and try again.

But when we realize all the advantages we have as Jesus' followers in setting and achieving goals; it can be a total game changer.

4 Big Christian Advantages in Goal Achievement

When we learn how to cooperate with God in the goal achieving process, we can see incredible results. Here are just some advantages Jesus’ followers have:

1. Our desire is to live God’s will, His plans and purposes

All sincere Christians want to know and live God’s plans; not their own.

When we align ourselves with what God wants to do; then He makes His power and resources available to us. As Romans 8 tells us, “If God is for us, who can be against us?”(Romans 8:37b,ESV)

2. God wants to communicate with us the things He wants us to focus on during each season of life.

Jesus said He only did what He saw the Father doing. (John 5:19, ESV). How powerful is it to set God-inspired goals rather than randomly picking a few?

So many times people fail in achieving goals because they think, using only their perceptions, the goals to set.

How much more powerful is it to step into the flow of God’s grace and work when and where He is working? God gives grace to accomplish His plans and purposes; that includes in our lives.

3. Biblical growth and transformation practices work.

Prayer, Bible study, Bible meditation, commitment to be a doer of the word and not just a hearer are proven goal achieving practices.

When we combine proven principles and practices with God’s presence, we multiply our success percentages. No one achieves every goal they set, but we can dramatically improve our percentages by setting goals and taking action based on Scripture.

4.We have God’s promises to stand on.

When we base our goal setting on God’s promises, then we have the strongest possible foundation to build on. Jesus said, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away.” (Matthew 24:35, ESV)

Every great goal will, at some point, face a faith challenge. The goal is being blocked. We’ve tried for a while and keep failing. We doubt whether we can achieve that goal.

But we have something eternal, unshakeable, incredibly powerful to draw on: the promises of God. 2 Peter 1:4, ESV, tells us that through God’s promises we are partakers of the divine nature. God’s promises give us His own nature to believe, achieve, and succeed in what He has called us to do.

Romans 10:17, ESV teaches that “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ.”

When we face those faith challenges, we can meditate on God’s promises to increase our faith and give us the power and persistence to press through.

What if?

What if 50% of Christ's followers learned to set and achieve God-inspired goals? How would that change their lives and change the world?

What if it could grow to 60%, 70% or higher? How would that change individual lives, families, churches, businesses, schools….the world?

If you’ve struggled in achieving goals, why not make this a turn around year? When we learn to set God-inspired goals and take God-empowered steps, entirely new dimensions of life become possible.
