5 Powerful Purpose Beliefs
Live Your God-Given Purposes On These Foundational Truths
What we believe to be true is THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTOR in how we live.
In the 80’s all the health experts told us we should eat a high-carb diet. A few decades later almost no one is teaching that.
But guess what, because most of us believed the “science-based research”; we at lots of grains, pasta, and bread. What we believed to be true is what we did.
Living a purpose driven life is challenging. So getting some solid, God-given beliefs from Scripture are essential to moving from hoping to doing what God put us here to do.
1. I Was Created by a Loving God On Purpose and For Purpose
Most thinking people want purpose. Internet searches tell us hundreds of millions of people look up phrases like “what is my purpose in life? and how do I find my purpose?”
Why is that? The Bible says it’s because we are created in the image of God and God is a purpose-driven God. He didn’t create the universe on a whim. He has well thought out purposes and plans for all He does.
This “bigger than we can comprehend” Creator made specific plans for us before He even created the world.
“who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was granted us in Christ Jesus from all eternity…” 2 Timothy 1:9
Write that down. God created you on purpose and for purpose.
2. What I am Called to Do Matters
Think about it. God thought enough of you that He went through the effort of designing specific plans and purposes for your life. Those plans were based on His purpose and His grace (unmerited love, favor, and power).
No one forced God to make you. He didn’t have to do it. But the smartest, most-loving Being in existence decided you should be born and you should have certain gifts and abilities to help people and build His kingdom.
You matter! What you do matters!
You are the means by which God will help people He has prepared for you to help.
God doesn’t do everything directly; He loves to work with and through people. He lets us be involved in the greatest mission of all time.
When you do what God prepared for you to do then:
People receive the gift of eternal life
Integrity built businesses are created and serve the world
Sick people are healed or helped or both
Lonely people are loved
Children are educated and trained to do great things
God doesn’t do all of that directly, He has chosen to work through imperfect people like you and me.
What I do matters!
3. God Wants Me To Succeed in His Purposes
God did not make these important plans, give us unique-gifts, and then set things up so we would fail.
God loves this world. He loves the people in this world enough to suffer and die for us. (John 3:16)
He will support you and back you as you zero in on what He has called you to do.
If we’re not succeeding yet, then there are a few things to consider.
a. I’m not doing what God called me to do. Many don’t take the time to get clear on this so they just do whatever comes up.
b. I’m going through a preparation phase. Sometimes your current success is getting prepared for the next step. God has important plans for you and important work needs lots of training (which includes challenges and sometime setbacks.)
c. The enemy is trying to stop you, discourage you, and get you to quit. Jesus clearly said that we deal with a thief whose goals are to “kill, steal, and destroy.” John 10:10a
4. I am a Co-Worker with God.
Paul wrote those words in 1 Corinthians 3:9 when talking about foundations for living.
Some Christians live with a “let go and let God” perspective. “If God wants it to happen, it will.”
Others go the other extreme of “If it’s going to be it’s up to me” or “God has done all He’s going to do, now it’s all on me.”
“Let go and let God” can easily lead to unbiblical fatalism, passivity, and excuses.
“It’s up to me” will wear us out, make us critical of non-action takers, or fill us with pride for all we’ve done.
The right balance is to see ourselves as “co-laborers, co-workers” with God. We can do nothing without Him, but with Him we can bear much fruit. (John 15:5)
We give it our best while trusting God. We work hard while putting the results in His hand.
I am a co-worker with God!
5. Living God’s Purposes is the Greatest Life Possible.
God’s plans and purposes are not only about the important work He has called us to do; but they include every key area of life.
God’s purposes include:
A great relationship with Christ. What is better than a love-relationship with the love-driven Creator and Sustainer of everything! (Romans 8:14)
Growing in Christlikeness in every area of life. (Ephesians 4:15) Jesus exemplified the highest human level of life possible and God wants us to experience more and more of that in this life and in eternity.
Love-driven relationships. The Great Commandment is to LOVE…God, others, and ourselves. To receive love and give love is at the heart of God’s purposes for us. (Mark 12:29–31)
A significant Calling. Doing work that combines your gifts, interests, and experiences to glorify God and help people is God’s will for you. (Ephesians 2:10)
A legacy leaving Commission. Jesus gives us the privilege of helping others become His devoted followers and live God’s purposes for their lives. What we invest in people has a incredible ripple effect in this generation and in future generations.
I get to live the great life possible; living God’s purposes!
